Date-filled chicken balls

Tender chicken with all the sweetness of sun-ripened dates. The ideal treat for a lazy Saturday.

Date-filled chicken balls


  • 780 g ground chicken
  • 40 ml olive oil
  • 100 g chopped onion
  • ½ bunch each parsley and coriander
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ½ tsp each of ground caraway, curry powder and curcuma
  • ½ lemon
  • 1 egg
  • pepper
  • 80 g sesame seeds
  • 50 g breadcrumbs
  • 150 g fresh dates
  • 1 tbsp Vegeta all-purpose seasoning
  • oil for deep frying

For the sauce

  • onion
  • coriander
  • parsley
  • garlic
  • 2 peppers
  • chilli pepper
  • juice of ½ a lemon
  • 300 g tin peeled plum tomatoes
  • salt and pepper


  1. Fry onion and garlic in oil, then add the chopped parsley and coriander, curcuma, curry, caraway, add Vegeta, and lemon juice. Fry briefly and add to your meat with the egg and pepper.
  2. Mix and form balls. Press a pitted date into each ball, then roll in a mixture of sesame seeds and breadcrumbs. Deep fry in hot oil.
  3. For the sauce, fry your sliced onions, chopped coriander, parsley and garlic. Add sliced peppers and chilli and fry until soft. Add the remaining ingredients, including the chicken balls, along with 400ml water. Cook for about 20 minutes.
